Volunteer Opportunities
Please select the task and that you would like to volunteer for from the options below.

Exercising Dogs: We have a large fenced in concrete exercise area where our dogs can be allowed to run freely and play while being supervised. We allow a few dogs at a time out to play. We also have 3 areas that are under cover and fenced off where puppies can be let out to play and socialize with volunteers.

Taking Dogs for Walks: Our dogs love to go for walks. We have a few different roadways they can be walked on that aren’t high traffic. Just think, you can get some exercise while exercising a dog!

Cleaning: We have lots of kitty litter pans, dog bowls, etc. that have to be hand washed, sanitized and dried on a daily basis. This is a time consuming part of the kennel techs day. We appreciate any help we can get with these duties.

Laundry: We do approximately 16-20 loads of laundry each day. Blankets, sheets, towels and surgery drapes have to be sorted, washed, dried, folded and placed on shelves in an organized fashion. As you can imagine, this is very time consuming. This can be done while exercising animals.

Facility Cleaning: It is very difficult to keep the public areas of our facility clean with the large number of people and animals we have coming through on a daily basis. We have bathrooms to clean, floors to sweep and mop as well as adoption rooms to keep looking clean and fresh. While we all do our very best to keep up with these areas it becomes very difficult at times.

Cleaning Kennels: At times we have small animals we keep in wire kennels for various reasons. They may be too frightened to put in the general adoption population or they may be a bit under the weather. These kennels have to be cleaned out a few times a day. While it isn’t much fun to do it is of utmost importance for the health and comfort of our animals.

Adoption Assistant: Our adoption counselor is one of the busiest staff members here. She is responsible for interviewing potential adoptive families, observing the introduction of our shelter animal to the adoptive families pet(s) and children and making the most informed decision possible as to whether or not this is the right pet for the family. She is also responsible for helping socialize the animals in our adoption area as well as overseeing the volunteers who exercise the animals. She also is an extra set of eyes to observe our animals to be sure they are feeling well both mentally and physically. She could use some help from someone who is committed to learning the process we use here.

Special Events: We are frequently in need of volunteers to help us take adoption animals to special events in the community. Just think of the great exposure you can help an animal get to potential adopters at these events. It is a lot of fun to see how much our shelter animals love getting out and about and making new friends!

Animal Transportation: We periodically have the need to transport animals to locations outside of our area to meet rescue organizations to pick up animals (usually cats and dogs) to go into their rescue groups. This is primarily done with animals that we, for various reasons, cannot place into our adoption program. Because of limited staff we at times need volunteers to do these transports for us.

Foster Care: One of the problems facing our humane society is that the facility has far more animals looking for their “forever” homes than there are homes available! We are always seeking families willing to foster some of the animals that we feel with a little extra love and attention would make great pets. They have a good disposition and the staff feels they deserve a second chance to find a wonderful “forever home”. Some animals just need one-on-one attention and socialization, plus discipline to mold them into an adoptable pet. We also need homes to foster animals recovering from surgery or malnourishment, military personal that have been deployed and need someone to foster their animals until they return, as well as permanent foster homes for elderly dogs that have been turned into the shelter just because they are old. They deserve to live out their life in a loving home where they are cherished, not thrown away.

General Maintenance: We dream of having volunteers who not only have the knowledge to make minor repairs and improvements but also have the tools available to do the jobs. Do you fall into this category?

What is your schedule like?
We would like to better utilize our volunteers by having somewhat of a schedule of when they will be able to donate time. Please fill out the days and times you would be available to work. We realize that schedules change and this information might not be valid at all times but it will help us to have a basic idea of when you are available. Our hours of need are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. We do allow volunteers to work on Sundays on a very limited schedule.

The times I am available are:
